Happy Sunday and welcome back to The 31-Days of Halloween! During the month of October, we pay a little extra attention to horror movies. One of the most memorable films from the 1980's was "A Nightmare on Elm Street." Starring Robert Englund as the murderous Freddy Krueger and Heather Langenkamp as the heroine, Nancy Thompson, the first film was truly unsettling and won rave reviews from the critics. Nancy's boyfriend Glen was played by an unknown 21-year-old actor named Johnny Depp!
When "Nightmare on Elm Street 3" arrived in 1987, Freddy was armed with a collection of humorous one-liners that transformed him into a pop-culture icon of sorts. We certainly learned that when someone asks you where you keep the bourbon, it's in best your best interest to answer quickly.
These days Robert Englund continues to appear in in television, video games, and conventions. You can see him again as Freddy Krueger on ABC TV's "The Goldbergs." That episode is scheduled for October 24th.
Heather Langenkamp now runs a prosthetic make-up studio with her husband, David LeRoy Anderson. When they were hired to work on 2013 film, "Star Trek: Into Darkness," Heather had her hubby give her an extreme prosthetic makeover and found her way into the film as an alien Starfleet security officer!
"Nightmare on Elm Street 4" arrived in 1988 with the franchise at the peak of its popularity. The Fat Boys released an officially sanctioned music video complete with rapping from Robert Englund, but they were outdone by an outside effort from DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince called, "A Nightmare On My Street." New Line Cinema filed a lawsuit and eventually all copies of their video were destroyed, but the song itself remains and has just been added to the 31-Days of Halloween playlist. Happy listening! -Kristen
