Oh Hello...This is getting kinda exciting! We’re now inside the Top-20 on the 2019 30/30 Countdown. At #19 on the Favorite-30 is Irish singer/songwriter Lisa Hannigan. She got her start in professional music playing with Damien Rice, before venturing out and releasing three albums of her own.
Her fourth release last May was a LIVE collaborative effort with European orchestral collective s t a r g a z e. They took her beautiful and sometimes sparse folk songs and transformed them into sparkling cinematic pieces. Recorded live in Dublin, have a listen to the song, “Swan.”
Seattle grunge-outfit Alice in Chains was coming-off a world tour near the end of 1993, when they ended-up back home with some recording-studio time on their hands. Weary and not in the mood to crank-up their amps, they tried out mostly-acoustic recordings of songs they had written on the road, as they also tried to see what kind of chemistry they had with new bass player Mike Inez. The band never expected the songs to be released, but their record-label heard the music and really liked it.
What resulted was the first EP to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard album chart.
“Jar Of Flies” would go on to sell over 4-million copies worldwide and it just celebrated its 25th anniversary this year! Let’s go with “I Stay Away.” It’s #19 on the Anniversary-30 Countdown. Happy listening! -Kristen
