Hello again and welcome to Knock Knock: New Music! I'm your host, Kristen Eck. The month of May is upon us and it looks like we may finally have some actual Spring weather here in the Boston area. With April in the rearview mirror, I have updated the Spotify playlist on the front page of the website with all of the Knock Knock: New Music selections from the past month. Since April had five Mondays, that's 10-songs for you to check-out and enjoy.
There are some great shows coming-up in the Boston area this week. Unknown Mortal Orchestra is at Royale tonight, while Lord Huron performs at House of Blues. Tomorrow's slate of gigs includes Company of Thieves at Brighton Music Hall, Calexico at The Sinclair, and Soccer Mommy at Great Scott. Dr. Dog checks-in to House of Blues on Wednesday and The Breeders will be there on Friday.
I am excited about Thursday night as I will be heading out to Sonia (formerly TT The Bear's) in Cambridge to see Dream Wife and Sunflower Bean. Both bands have been featured on Knock Knock: New Music. As a matter of fact, Dream Wife was in the first-ever episode back in January. Their self-titled debut album is out now. This is a great record and I love the photos and album packaging as well! I am very much looking forward to meeting both bands!
I featured the tune, "Somebody" from Dream Wife back in January. Let's dip back into the record for another track. Have a look at the official music video for "Hey Heartbreaker."
My second artist this week on Knock Knock: New Music is Stonefield. They are four sisters from a little town North of Melbourne in Australia. They started playing together as a band in 2006, originally under the name Lotah. Their self-titled debut album (as Stonefield) came out in 2013.
Their sound has a healthy dose of psychedelic rock influence, which to me as an early Pink Floyd fanatic, is wonderful. It's also very cool to see that drummer Amy Findlay is also the lead vocalist.
This past December Stonefield announced they had signed with Flightless Records. Their third album, "Far From Earth," was released earlier this month. Check-out this very unique live performance of the track, "Delusion," recorded for Jam In The Van. If you haven't heard of them, these folks drive a fantastic solar-powered mobile recording studio around the country recording bands. Check out their website at JamInTheVan.com, as well as their YouTube channel. What a great idea!
That's this week's edition of Knock Knock: New Music! If you like what's going on here tell your friends about it and put my website at KristenEckRadio.com on your list of favorites. Comments?
