In the past 26-years since he released his first album, few artists have made an impact as continuous & meaningful on music than Beck Hansen, who you may know better as just Beck. What’s amazing about the run he started in 1993 with his smash-hit-single, “Loser” is that he never stayed with any musical formula, opting to continually reinvent himself. From his 1996 LP "Odelay" to 2002's "Sea Change" (my favorite) to 2008's "Modern Guilt" he was always adapting and changing, while still remaining hugely relevant to those of us who love indie-music.
Fast-forward over 20-years and most artists have nothing left creatively, but Beck instead dropped two Grammy Award winning albums on us with 2014’s “Morning Phase” and 2017’s “Colors.” Each one was radically different from the other, but both were wonderful!
Last month he was back at it releasing a new single with Cage the Elephant. They’ll be touring together this Summer with a stop here in the Boston area in Mansfield in August. I already have my tickets!
This week Beck announced an entire new album called “Hyperspace" to be released on Fonograf Records / Capitol Records. I don’t have a date yet, but I do have a new single from the record. It’s a collaboration with Pharrell (drums, guitar, background vocals) called “Saw Lightning” and it’s just been added to the Knock Knock: New Music playlist. Happy listening! -Kristen
