BumbleBee Brunch Playlist: 3/11/2022

We have reached one of my favorite mile-markers in the journey toward Summer: Daylight Savings Time weekend! The clocks jump-ahead by one hour in most place here in the United States early Sunday morning. In the UK British Summer Time (BST) begins on 3/27/2022. Fun fact: Since Arizona is one of the few places that don't engage in Daylight Savings Time, if you walk from one end of the Hoover Dam to the other during that time of year you will notice the clock-faces on each of the intake towers on the Arizona and Nevada sides of the dam are TWO hours apart! So what's the big deal in all of this? Well it gets us one step closer to Summer and one of my favorite activities: Sitting on the back deck in the evening among my rail-boxes of Impatiens, sipping cocktails (frozen strawberry vodka lemonade is a favorite,) and listening to music! We had plenty of great new music on Friday's BumbleBee Brunch. We heard new tunes from Superorganism, The Cheap Cassettes, Cephos Powders, HAAi, Tess Parks, and Phoebe Green. The Black Keys dropped a new single this week along with news of a new album. "Dropout Boogie" comes out 5/13/2022 on Nonesuch Records. Check-out the very fun (but sometimes gross) music video for the lead single "Wild Child" below!

A week ago on Bandcamp Friday I grabbed a .FLAC (a loseless audio format superior to MP3) copy of Austin, Texas indie staple Spoon's latest LP, "Lucifer On The Sofa." I mentioned this on the show yesterday... It's not very often that a band that has been together for 29 years and is releasing their 10th album ends-up releasing their BEST album, but such is the case here in my own humble opinion. Up till now 2014's "They Want My Soul" had been my favorite Spoon LP (still a great album if you haven't heard it yet,) but this newest offering takes the top spot! We featured another track from this amazing record, "Feels Alight" on Friday's program.

As always we love to integrate homegrown Boston and New England music in the mix along with everyone else both on the Brunch show and on BumbleBee Radio on an everyday basis. After all good music is good music period. Having a contract with a record label doesn't necessarily make you better or more worthy of airplay. Friday's program featured great new Boston sounds from Ex-Hyena, Michael Kane & The Morning Afters, The Soon To Haves, The Dirty Truckers, and Spotted Owls along with a great 2020 track from Modern Day Idols and classic Boston tracks from Morphine and 'Til Tuesday.

While "Love In A Vacuum" is the first track on 'Til Tuesday's 1985 debut LP "Voices Carry," the song was actually on the Boston radio in 1983. Legendary radio station WBCN gave the song heavy airplay despite the fact that the band was unknown and unsigned to a label. 'Til Tuesday went on to win WBCN's Rock & Roll Rumble (the same one run today by Anngelle Wood from Boston Emissions,) and Epic Records took notice, signing the band in 1984. Their debut album arrived a year later! Just another great example of why you shouldn't wait around for the music industry to approve of something before giving it a chance! Boston has so many wonderfully talented artists just waiting for you to discover their art and their music. BumbleBee Radio is very proud and happy to be a part of helping you find them! Here is the full playlist for Friday's show...
