BumbleBee Brunch Playlist: 2/19/2021

Thank you to everyone who tuned into BumbleBee Brunch Friday morning on the website, Android app, and on 90.7 FM WKKL, Cape Cod's Classic Alternative. Our latest show was pretty Boston-heavy with tunes from Cold Expectations, Justine And The Unclean, Haasan Barclay, Modern Day Idols, and The Gypsy Moths along with Boston tracks from the past with Morphine, Pixies, and The Dresden Dolls. Anyone who says great music doesn't come out of Boston anymore simply isn't paying attention.

Friday's show featured a brand new single from Boston artist Adi Sun. The creative force behind Phenomenal Sun, she has navigated a whirlwind of life-events since 2019, including falling in love, illness, heartbreak, coming-out as transgender, and leaving her band to pursue a solo-career. Adi's first single, "Bella Sun Lever" won high-praise from many corners of the music world and finished #1 in the BumbleBee Radio Favorite-50 of 2020 show on New Year's Day as well as Anngelle Wood's "Songs of the Year" show for 2020 on Boston Emissions.

Adi Sun's second single, "My Fault" was released to the world on Friday and I was delighted for a chance to play it the same day on BumbleBee Brunch. Recorded in her new home studio with help from New Alliance Audio in Somerville and Bakery Mastering in California, it held me transfixed for nearly 45-minutes as this majestic and melancholy confessional song seeking self-absolution poured (like the thunderstorm heard in the background at one point) out of my Audio Technica studio headphones over and over again. You can listen to/purchase a copy of "My Fault" on Adi's Bandcamp page. Click HERE for other ways to listen, as well as an interview on Boston Emissions TV and a great article from our friends at Vanyaland!

Friday's program saw the debut of the third single from Boston band Devil Love's new album "Broken Things" which was released a week earlier on February 12th. A culmination of singer/songwriter Peter Buzzelle's dream to create a band that weaves the sound of 90's Alternative music with the big guitar edge of 70's rock, with indie-pop sensibilities guiding the way, this album is on-target with his mission!

Peter Buzzelle (Guitar/Vocals) is joined by Ken Rothman (Guitar,) Jason Raffi (Bass,) Josh Cohen (Keyboards,) and Chuck Ferreira (Drums) on this 10-track LP available now on Bandcamp. We've had "Everywhere Leads The Sound" and most recently "Gold Currency" in heavy-rotation here on BumbleBee Radio, but I'd have to say the new single, "We Can Leave Tonight" is my favorite track yet. The entire album is absolutely worth a listen!

It was oh... around 11:15 Friday morning, when the airwaves on BumbleBeeRadio.com and 90.7 FM WKKL erupted in-flames with the new single from Boston's Sunshine Riot. This quartet featuring Johnny Orton (Guitar/Vocals,) Jeff Sullivan (Bass,) Mark Tetreault (Guitar,) and Steven Shepard (Drums/Percussion) has been together over 10-years, but their forthcoming EP, "Electrical Tape" (recorded with veteran engineer/producer Steve Albini at Electrical Audio in Chicago) is promising a band that has found its comfort-level to the point that they're fine with swerving out of previously established lanes head-on into wherever their creativity takes them.

Written by drummer Stephen Shepherd (with lyrics from Johnny Orton) "Too Old For Love Songs" is an explosive tune about failed relationships that was released quite conveniently on February 12th (two days before Valentines Day) and follows their first single "Fast Train," which has been receiving heavy airplay here on BumbleBee Radio. Set your headphones on-fire with a copy of each song over on Sunshine Riot's Bandcamp page. The full "Electrical Tape" EP is set to arrive in April. Can't wait to hear it!
