The playlist blog is a tad late in publishing today as I spent my Saturday morning sleeping-in. February is about the only month where I either sleep-in or nap between helicopter flights for WBZ Radio. The days are steadily getting longer and I spent a few minutes with my morning coffee ordering vegetable and flower seeds for the upcoming growing season. As we continue toward the equinox the pace of new music releases continues to pick-up and LIVE shows around the Boston area are on the uptick. It's a good time to be an indie music fan!
I have been impressed with some of the places BumbleBee Radio has received music-submissions from recently. Last week we played our first-ever submission from India and on this week's program we played a song submitted by Moldova's Lemonique. Moldova is a small Eastern European country on the Southwest side of Ukraine. While indeed the eyes of the world are on Ukraine waiting to see if it is invaded by Russia, the other buzz around the region is about the Eurovision Song Contest, a huge televised music competition that is very popular throughout Europe. Lemonique recently finished 3rd in the preliminary round for the right to represent Moldova in the Grand Finals in May. We played their song "Boys."
Boston and Great Britain came together on Friday's show with UK electronic group The Deckadent Movement remixing Violet Nox's "Moonshine." The original version of the song appeared on their 2020 EP, "Future Fast" and you can listen to & purchase a copy of this great remix on the Violet Nox Bandcamp page. You can catch them LIVE on Friday April 8th at O'Brien's Pub in Allston along with Ex-Hyena, Andre Obin, and DJ Bob Diesel. Find out more HERE.
We also heard Boston music from Gabi Ammirato, Shirley Drive, Key Of Caustic, A Bunch Of Jerks, Rolling Nectar, The Tear Downs, Parlour Bells, and Green Piece along with a classic alternative number from Amherst, MA outfit Dinosaur Jr. Their "Green Mind" LP turns 31 today. I still remember playing that album for the first time back in 1991 on 90.7 FM WKKL. 31-years later I'm still playing it on WKKL!
