Thank you to everyone who tuned-into the 12/18/2020 edition of BumbleBee Brunch! I'm always excited when new music arrives from Vermont from Humanwine co-founder Holly Brewer. Holly has been steadily creating and releasing singles throughout the pandemic in 2020. "On A Mission" is high on my list of favorite songs of the year and Friday we debuted a gorgeous new song that Holly released on her birthday back on December 13th: "Little Misfit." Grab a copy of your own over on Holly's Bandcamp page.
I was very pleasantly surprised to learn earlier in the week of yet another new song from Boston/Brooklyn Hip Hop group Gang Starr. 2020 marked 10-years since MC Guru (originally from Roxbury, Massachusetts) passed away from complications from Cancer. Last year Gang Starr co-founder DJ Premier released a new album featuring unreleased vocal tracks from Guru that had been sitting in vaults. "One Of The Best Yet" featured one of my Top-5 songs of 2019: "Family & Loyalty." This year sees the release of an instrumental version of "One Of The Best Yet," which also includes a new Guru vocal track: "Glowing Mic." Have a listen over on DJ Premier's YouTube page.
The Shang Hi Lo's announced their debut album to be released next month ("Kick It Like A Wicked Bad Habit,") and we featured the second single off the forthcoming LP, "Skipping Records." Kristian Montgomery & The Winterkill Band's new album, "Prince Of Poverty" is also on the way soon. Kristian says the song "Don't Call Me Baby" was inspired by a dream he had where Alanis Morissette forced him to dig his own grave and then shot him repeatedly while saying, "It's okay baby." And I thought I had bizarre dreams. We also heard some great new Boston tunes from Motel Black, Devil Love, and a holiday track from Wolf Blitzer (the band not the news anchor.)
Boston & London made a connection on the Friday show with a new collaboration between Boston music producer Bryan Yebba of Yebba Studios and London singer/songwriter Jodie Poye. You can snag a copy of their new song "Closest I've Been To Heaven" HERE.
Speaking of London, we also heard a brand new track from Imogen Heap that has quickly shot up into the upper ranks of my favorite songs of 2020 as well as a tune from Laura Marling that has been one of my faves since it arrived in the Spring.
