As we get closer and closer to the Winter Solstice the chances of dealing with snow increase. Many people ask me around this time of year, whether we fly in the snow. The answer is YES! Of course, other factors like visibility and cloud ceiling height have to be within acceptable limits and we have to know that icing will not be an issue. Safety is always our first concern! If you've ever wondered what a snow flurry/squall looks like at night from a helicopter have a gander at this...
We made it look a little more dramatic by throwing-on the landing-light for a second. Kinda reminds you of jumping to light-speed in the Millennium Falcon, eh?
We've reached #25 in the Lights-Camera-30 countdown of my 30 favorite NEW songs of 2018. That spot is occupied by a Scottish synth-pop band you may have heard-of, Chvrches! They've been around since 2011 and this year saw the release of their third album, "Love is Dead." This was the first record the band used an outside producer in Greg Kurstin. Dave Stewart of Eurythmics was also present in the studio for much of the recording. The album climbed to #11 on the Billboard album chart. While I am very fond of the track, "My Enemy" featuring a duet between lead singer Lauren Mayberry and Matt Berninger from The National, I'm going with the lead single, "Get Out."
Today's selection for the Anniversary-30 playlist comes from an album celebrating a 40th-anniversary this year: "Road to Ruin" by New York City punk rock legend, Ramones. This was the band's fourth album and the first, where they attempted to move away from their original formula and become more mainstream.
The move backfired as fans and critics alike turned-up their noses and sales lagged-behind their previous album, "Rocket to Russia" (which also sold poorly.) It DID, however produce what would eventually become one of the band's most popular songs: "I Wanna Be Sedated." It's waiting for you now on the Anniversary-30 playlist. Happy listening! -Kristen
