Welcome to the weekend and Day Six of the 31-Days of Halloween! I hope you've been having a good time so far! If you're just joining me, I'm counting down the 31 days in October with a musical playlist that culminates on Halloween.
Today we add a song from someone, who very clearly has a voice made for this holiday: Singer/songwriter Tom Waits! He released his first album, "Closing Time" in 1973 and while he never became a smashing commercial success, he has grown a large cult-following of folks tuned-into his gravelly voice and dark musical portraits of some of the more unpleasant corners life. His 1992 LP, "Bone Machine" won the Grammy for "Best Alternative Music Album."
In addition to releasing several albums, Tom has composed music for film and stage, and has appeared in numerous TV shows and movies, including a memorable performance as the deranged R.M. Renfield in the 1992 film, "Bram Stoker's Dracula."
So let's put this very unique voice to work for us with a selection from his 1978 album, "Valentine." The song is entitled "Whistling Past The Graveyard" and it's ready for your listening pleasure on the 31-Days of Halloween playlist. Happy listening! -Kristen
