Why hello there! I'm Kristen Eck... Welcome to a new week and a new episode of Knock Knock: New Music! I have some exciting news to share with you and it involves one of my favorite artists: Florence + The Machine! I saw her put on an incredible show on her 2012 tour and her third album, "How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful" was my favorite record of 2015. Today, I'm delighted to share a new single with you. It's called "Sky Full Of Song."
In a statement from singer/mastermind Florence Welch she said, "This was a song that just fell out of the sky fully formed." The track is a ballad that opens with little else than Florence's enchanting voice and slowly builds as strings and piano softly enter the fray. Like a great many of her wonderful songs, this is another that is simply breathtaking.
Florence + The Machine will be hitting the music festivals this Summer with U.S. stops in Denver, San Fransisco, and Los Angeles. NME reports an entire new album has been in development since last year with producer Brett Shaw, who was at the helm for
"How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful." Rumors have suggested a new record could be here by June.
Let's have a look & a listen to the official music video for the new track,
"Sky Full Of Song." It will be released on special-edition 7-inch vinyl for Record Store Day, this Saturday, April 21st.
Speaking of Record Store Day, are you going? I don't make every one of them, as I tend to be in the record store on many other days of the year. I don't need an excuse to get lost in the vinyl bins for two or three hours on a Saturday afternoon, but some of the special-edition stuff is fun.
Like this vinyl copy of "The Fall" from Gorillaz. This album was recorded entirely on Damon Albarn's iPad, while they were on-tour in-support of the "Plastic Beach" LP in 2011. I nabbed this at Record Store Day at Newbury Comics, when they still had a location at the Fresh Pond Mall in Cambridge. I will be going this year, for sure, to try and get one of the Florence + The Machine singles!
My second artist this week on Knock Knock: New Music is 19-year-old Dominic Harrison, better known in the indie-rock world these days as YUNGBLUD. He's from Doncaster, England but is quickly becoming known around the world. His music is a mix of punk, ska, and hip hop. He cites early Arctic Monkeys as a "massive" influence.
He's currently on-tour in Europe, but will be coming to America this Summer as part of the Vans Warped Tour. That makes a stop at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield on Friday, July 27th. YUNGBLUD's self-titled EP is out now. Check-out an raucous live performance of "I Love You, Will You Marry Me?"
That's this week's edition of Knock Knock: New Music! If you like what's happening here tell your friends about it and put my website at KristenEckRadio.com on your list of favorites. If you have any comments or suggestions I'd love to hear them. Send your feedback to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you so much for stopping by for a visit. Happy listening!
