Hello and welcome back to Knock Knock: New Music! There's a number of things going on in music history this week, including David Bowie's first-ever television appearance (before he was even known as "Bowie.") He also had a big album release this week in 1975. We also saw notable record releases from Tears For Fears, Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, The Buzzcocks, and U2.
We also have some big musical birthdays this week including David Gilmour, Chris Squire,
John Cale, and Gary Numan, but first let's get to my favorite part of the week... Let's talk new music.
We begin with Durham, North Carolina electro-pop duo, Sylvan Esso. They've been together since 2013. Singer Amelia Meath and electronic musician, Nick Sanborn first met at a gig they were both booked at in Milwaukee. Amelia asked Nick to remix a new song she had been working on for her band, Mountain Man. Nick's work on that track started a correspondence & collaboration and Sylvan Esso was born!
Their second LP release, "What Now" was released in the Spring of last year and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album.
Sylvan Esso played at last year's Boston Calling Music Festival, but this year they have a headline tour of their own. They'll be at the State Theater in Portland, Maine on April 2nd and at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion in Boston on July 28th. Local Natives are opening for them, so that should be a great show!
"Parad(w/m)E" isthe NEW single for 2018 from Sylvan Esso. Upbeat music... Dark lyrics. We'll have a look at the official music video.
My second artist this week on Knock Knock: New Music is singer/songwriter Sarah Blasko. She's from Sydney, Australia. I talked about her a bit last month in the Breakfast Bytes new album-releases blog. She began singing in church when she was a kid. In high school, she formed a jazz/blues group with her older sister, Kate.
Sarah would go on to become the lead singer for Sydney rock band, Acquiesce before finally launching her own solo career in 2002.
Sarah Blasko is currently on-tour i n Europe and Australia, but does have one U.S. top scheduled so far on April 19th at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles.
"Depth Of Field" is her sixth studio album. It came out at the end of February and it is hauntingly beautiful. Have a look and a listen to the official music video for the second single off the record, "A Shot."
Thank you so much for stopping by to visit this week. If you like what's going on here, tell your friends about it, subscribe to my YouTube channel, and add KristenEckRadio.com to your list of favorite websites. See you again soon!
